Dear diary,
I wrote Forbidden Love from a place I don’t talk about very often.
I was very young when I fell completely in love with someone who was in a dark place. Our love wasn’t accepted. It was judged and disapproved of, so we had to keep it hidden — living in the shadows, sneaking moments whenever we could.
I was seen as the innocent, pure girl.
He was seen as the bad influence.
The world didn’t see what I saw.
They didn’t see the softness, the connection, the truth between us.
We had to hide our romance, and somehow that only made everything stronger. The longing. The ache. The wanting. Not being allowed to love each other openly made the passion burn brighter and deeper. Every stolen moment felt electric. Every goodbye hurt more than the last.
When I wrote this song, I took that piece of my past and wrapped it in a story, like a dark fairytale. Like when a pure, innocent girl falls in love with someone the world sees as dangerous or monstrous. Like Beauty and the Beast, or Twilight, the story of a girl who falls in love with a vampire. A love where light meets darkness, and no one understands except the two hearts living inside it.
Forbidden Love lives in that space.
Between what’s allowed and what’s real.
Between innocence and shadow.
