The Making of Love

I wrote ‘Love’ in 2019 whilst busking on the streets of Byron Bay. I had just had my heart broken and had taken to the streets to sing my pain away. All of a sudden the song just flowed through me and as I was singing it a man stopped and listened. His eyes welled up with tears and he whispered, ‘Thank you so much, I really needed to hear that.’ Then he dropped $100 in my guitar case and strolled away as the sun was setting.

At that moment I knew there was something special about the song. Since then I have had such an amazing response everytime I perform it live.

I sang the song at a Facebook live lockdown concert and Aria Award winning producer Govinda Doyle saw the video and fell in love with the song. He contacted me and asked if he could record it for me, and I happily accepted.

He wanted to capture the magic of how I play it live as I have never managed to do that before with a recording, so I was excited to work with him.

We recorded the song without a metronome so we could recreate the live sound. It turned out amazing. It has excellent production yet maintains its raw quality. I think it's important to release music in its most raw and authentic form as possible. So much music is overproduced these days using high tech equipment, oftentimes it loses the soul and original essence of the song.

The video has a magical story too. After my mother sadly passed away in 2019 I spent two years in her beautiful house before we had to say goodbye to it.

Her house was the most colourful piece of art. Every room was a different bright colour and the outside of the house was bright blue and turquoise.

I was in the process of moving out of my mothers house. I had some photos of the house online, which went viral on Marketplace as the house was so beautiful. A videographer happened to spot the photos on my facebook page and said he would love to make a music video of me in my mum's house before I moved out.

It felt very serendipitous and it was so special to me to capture the beauty of my mum's house in this video. I miss her and the house so much and when I watch the video it fills my heart with her love.

I have been living in my beautiful van and loving the freedom of it.

Next step in the release is going on tour in my lovely camper van along the East Coast of NSW and QLD, Australia. The tour is to promote Love and my upcoming single Rebel, to be released in late March.

Listen to Love here and watch the video here.
